Answers
  1. CD contains a different program, although its labelled correctly

Please return the disk to us for testing/replacement. A small number of CD's slipped out from our mastering house with incorrect data on them.

  2. How do I install the lectures so they run from the hard disc?

It is possible to get the lectures running from the had disc by copying the lectures folder from Disc 2 into the Media folder inside the Redshift 4 installation folder. We unfortunately can't support this process, but it normally works perfectly fine.

  3. Redshift 4 Locks Up when loading New Workspace

You need to ensure that your display settings are set to the required minimum of 800 x 600 & High Colour 16 bit. To do this follow the steps below.

    • Select START, then SETTINGS, and select the Control Panel

    • Double click on DISPLAY to display the display properties.

    • Click on the SETTINGS tab on the display box.

    • Check that the Screen size / are, Display size / area "slider" is set to 800x600 or greater.

    • Ensure that the Colour palette is set to at least high Colour 16 bit or greater.

    • Click on OK, and follow any on screen instructions. If prompted allow windows to restart to ensure that the new settings are correctly implemented.

  4. I get an MSVCRT.DLL error

    To fix this error:

    1. Double click on "My Computer" on your desktop (or select Start, then My Computer with Windows XP)

    2. Double click on your C: drive

    3. Go into the folder called "Program Files"

    4. Go into the folder called "Maris"

    5. Go into the folder called "Redshift"

    6. Right click on a file called "MSVCRT" and select DELETE.

Now run Redshift and it should be fine.

  5. What is disc 2 used for?

The second disc is purely a data disc - how much the program accesses it and which parts it requires the disc in the drive for depends upon the type of installation performed.

    • On a minimum installation, CD 2 is required to Operate The Sky Views (i.e. Open Workspaces) and to view the lectures (Information Menu > Story Of The Universe).

    • On the recommended installation, CD 2 is required to use 4M & HGS Catalogs and to view the lectures.

    • On a full installation, CD 2 is only required to view the lectures.

In all cases, the program will ask you to insert disc 2 if necessary

  6. ins5576 This programme has performed an illegal operation

Try cleaning the CD to see if that helps as it may be that there are some dust particles or fingerprints on it preventing it from being read properly. Otherwise we should get the disc replaced as it sounds faulty. To get a replacement you can either take it back to where you bought it, if convenient, or return it to us directly.

To return the CD to us, send it to:

  7. Update for the RedShift 4 installer

There is a patch file associated to this solution...
